Default direct x 9.0c problem

hello,

i have windows xp with sp2 installed.
i tried installing directx 9.0c but it quickly finishes the installation in 1 sec n says "finished installation". but it doesnt get installed.

whats the problem n how do i install dx 9.0c now ?
plz its urgent.

go to start -> run -> type "dxdiag"

look at that, and see if dxdiag is already installed...

Well that happened to me and i figured out it was already installed so there was nothing to install and thats why its done in one sec. Do a search on your computer for directx if you cant find it in program files.

well. i tried that dxdiag thing. its there installed but its dx 9.0b.
i don tknw why this 9.0c is not installing ?

directx 9.0b is just as good, i think 9.0c is just an update.

i used a file to uninstall direct x. it asked me to give the path for the i386 folder . i had a setup on my harddisk it took that. after that it uninstalled the version n now i have the dx 8.1 on the system. now when i run the 9.0c installation it gives the same message saying it had finished installation. ........... ???? consused....
