Hi. I've I just bought myself a new hard drive and installed windows onto it. My older hard drive had windows crash, but still has all my files with the same settings, etc. The trouble with this is that I cannot access most of my files on the old hard drive as I had set a simple access restriction on my profile as an admin. I have no clue as how to revert the access settings so that I can gain access to it again. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Re:

Hello,

You need to take ownership of the folders and file on that drive. They ownership & permissions are currently set to your old Windows Operating System's Administrator account.

To do this, you need to log into the Administrator account. If you're using Home Edition, you need to boot into safe mode in order to gain access to the admin account.

You then need to go to My Computer, then right click the drive in question, click properties, select the security tab, advanced button, then set ownership of the drive to the current Administrator account.

Instructions available in the following guides:

unless you used the encription option, then you need to look up copying the encription code to your new build.. not too easy.. last time my drive died i learnt not to use encription again as i lost the lot.. oops
