No I am talking about they keys they give you on the side of the computer. I have a windows xp home edition cd (not from dell) and have a windows xp home edition cd key (from dell) and since the cd is oem and it doesnt like the key, which is it? A retail key or a volume license key?

I want to know so I can change the file that tells what version of windows keys to accept and what kinds of keys to accept.

it is a retail key. it isn't the same key install on the machine either and they use a vlk to install and then slap a retail key on the box. a regular xp home cd should recognize the key as I use it to install xp on plenty of dell computers
