Default copying a partition to another HDD

first of all, is it possible to transfer a partitioned OS to another HDD? if it is how would i go about doing it, i dont need a full explanation just point me in the right direction.. Thanks

not really sure, its a soft partition and its of windows XP. its saved on there from an old HP pre made comp. anyway i can check if it was a PM or drive image?

I was saying use the programs partition magic or drive image pro to do it

Search for free partitioning software. I don't have experience with any. I know they are around, but they are usually very limited compared to Partition Magic or other paid software.
