Connection monitoring software.

In my Windows XP Pro systray, I have an icon for my ADSL upstream/downstream rate, which flash when communicating. Lately they flash on and off now and again, even if nothing (that I have asked for) is open and using the connection. Is there any piece of software I can use to see what is trying to connect to where, as things like that annoy me. (Its probably just windows being nosey).

you can install a software firewall like zonealarm or norton firewall and it will prompt you every time some program or process requests access to the internet. you have a choice of either allowing or prohibiting internet access to those process or programs. you can use a trial version to test it out.
