My grandmother has been having problems recently with her computer's connection. For the last couple of weeks an icon on the tool bar has alerted her that a network cable for Local Area Connection 3 has been unplugged. However when viewing the network connections, Local Area Connection 4 is fine. Firefox works, but IE doesn't because it can't find a connection. Windows Live Messenger also won't work because it can't find a connection. Anyone know what the problem could be.

Why do you have four local connections?

My first thought would be to delete all of the connections then properly create a connection so you don't have all of these unneeded connections.

I have no idea. I actually only see three and four in Network Connections. Would you mind explaining how to go about deleting the connections and creating a proper one? I really don't know much when it comes to messing with connections.
