I am trying to fix my friends computer. Its a Windows Vista Basic Edition.

Here is what i've done so far:

  1. CCLeaner (registry/temp)
  2. Spybot Search And Destroy
  3. AVG Free
  4. Cleared most startup items / services via msconfig
  5. defrag
Her computer takes forever to boot up to the windows login screen, let alone start the OS. Besides doing a complete reformat, what are some other options to speed up this system?

Her computer showed no viruses /spywares / malwares with my scans. Hardware malfunction maybe?

What are your thoughts on this one?

I don't know the system specs as its my friend's computer. The reason I don't know is that its too slow to even bother trying to find the system specs. And at the moment it seems impossible to boot into safe mode after pressing F5-F8; it only gives me an option to "Repair" or "Run Windows Normally"

nevermind, i was able to boot into safemode....

Well, its a Vista Basic machine meaning probably the most basic Hardware to run Vista.. so its probably a small ram issue or slow ram.
