My Dell Inspiron B130 is running very slow these days and I am not sure why. It ued to run really great but lately it has slowed down alot. Boot up takes approxiately 5 minutes plus. I have run AVG, Ad-Aware, Spy-Bot S&D, Norton Antivirus, and Panda Active Scan. This fixed many issues but it is still running very slowly. Someone help. Here is my latest HiJackthis Log.

Thanks for the help,
John

I typically use the disk clean program about 2 times a week and the last time I ran defrag, the computer told me that it did not need to be defraged at this time.

john how much ram do you have? you have quite a bit running at startup and should narrow that down for starters, especially considering you have norton, which is infamous for slowing pc's down. defrag it anyway, it won't hurt anything and make a practice of defragging after either installing or deleting large files to keep it running smooth.

this could also be malware from something you've installed or downloaded, but unlikely.

IMO you just have too many programs and services running and should just narrow it down to your anti virus and anti spyware programs in startup....

I have 512 memory and it used to run just fine. I know that there are a lot of services running but not sure which one to shut down. I will defrag if you think that'll help.

Thanks,
John

take a few minutes and go through only page 90 (skip step 5, get to msconfig screen by hitting clicking start - type without quotes 'msconfig', hit enter, select startup button on the right) , 92, and 93, should help tremendously, personally i'd get rid of everything in startup except norton but its up to you what to keep in startup, but definetely trim it up.

also i didn't see anything nasty in your hijackthis log but of course you should regularly update norton and scan with it, as well as your antispyware program.

Norton has always been a big problem for me.....personally I would tank it and download Avast or AVG.

I would but Norton is provided by my employer and they want me to use that.
But not until recently have I had these issues. I watch the CPU status and it reads single digits but the programs are running slow as molasses on a winter day.
