Computer kicks me out of everything!!

I've been having a problem with my XP home edition. SP2
Everytime I try to play a video or song whether I'm in my e-mail program or in windows media player......the computer shuts it all down and throws me back to my desktop. This also happens when I try to run and read any type of files...word, psf (adobe) etc...It shuts it all down and throws me back to the desktop. Going CRAZY here!! Whhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaazzzzzzzz Uuuuuup!!
Any HELP would be greatly appreciated!!

What are the symptons when this happens just a quick shutdown of your applactions or does it hang everything up for a few seconds.And when did this start happening did you install anything new.If so have you tried to do a system restore back to a earler time when things worked better.

Yes.......What happens is the computer will access the application for a quick second like it's going to work...then it will quickly shutdown and return me to the desktop......I will try the system restore.....forgot about that one...ooops!!
