Computer(Email) Encryption

I want to know if there any more ways to encrypt data from my computer. So far I have setup Hamachi for a VPN between my laptop and pc. I have also setup WPA encryption on my wireless router, I also enabled MAC address filtering. I want to know what I can use to encrypt my email messages. I currently use the Thunderbird email client. I'm sure there is something free and that is what I am looking for. I have found a few services but they are not completly free, they only have trials.

pgp (Pretty good Protection) can be used to encrypt data sent from one spot to another. The person on the other end needs to have it as well, so they can see your stuff, but it's pretty strong for sensitive data. It will also allow you to encryopt the data on your machine so that it's secure.
