Comp. has random shutdowns, can it be my os?

Went to sleep last night, woke up and it was fine .... I had to reset it becuase avg wanted to remove the microsoft virus thing, so i let it.

FYI, every program I reccomend should be free, and if its not Ill usally tell you.

yea they were free, is it ok that i removed the microsoft i duno if it was anti spyware or virus, but it said it was severe

Well, while talking to someon on aim, it did it again to the blue screen.

" A problem has been deteceted and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer "
"IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"
