characters mixed

im on a friends laptop. since yesterday for some reason pressing certain keys makes different characters pop up. for eg if i press 'p' i get a * if i press 'u' i get a 4. this is not the case for all the keys, just the ones on the keyboard that actually have these letters written under them. pressing the 'Fn' key stops this problem but only while its pressed. im holding the fn key with my left hand in order to type this with my right hand.

You need to press "fn" and another key. Its a shortcut but I cannot remember the other key. Let me see if I can find it.

Turn off the NumLock on the laptop.

I assume your talking about a laptop?

did you recently install any new software, or hardware?

when did it start doing this??

NUMLOCK didnt solve it for me when i had that problem. Glad it worked for you
