win amp rips aac and aac plus.

last time i used winamp (last year), it only rips in 8X speed, and only the AAC format, not MP3.

Windows Media uses the full speed of your drive while ripping.

AAC = M4A

M4A = Mpeg Audio Layer 4 = Better
MP3 = Mpeg Audio Layer 3 = Older, inferior compression algorithem.

What I can't understand though is why the Mpeg Audio Layer 4 Standard hasn't caught on and become mainstream is it because it isn't called "MP4".

I have Winamp Pro and about 8 encoders to choose from.

hey i got windows media player 8.
and it seems to only rip to windows media player?

do i need to download windows media player 10 ro rip to mp3's?

yep. you needed third party encoders previously
