ok, so my old Vista computer has gotten so slow, i finally had to do something about it. i did a command prompt scan sfc /scannow, which went thru the files, and apparently fixed some of them. but it also came back and said it could not fix some of the files. it said details are included in the CBS.log
windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.Log. i tried typing that back into the command prompt, but it came back as ... the system cannot find the path specified. so i am not sure what to do at this point. the good news is it has fixed at least some of the bad files, as my computer runs much better now. should i even bother trying to mess with this, or just be happy the speed is back, and forget it.

Put percent signs around the "windir". So:

%windir%\Logs\cbs\cbs.log

well, i typed it in that way, and it comes back as Access is denied for some reason. i AM running this as the administrator, so ?????

Try manually browsing to the file in Explorer. Type in the %windir%\Logs\CBS into the address bar then find the CBS.log file and just try double clicking it.
