So the first thing I should do would put thermal paste on and then place the part that holds the CPU in place? Wait a few hours and boot up and see were i am at?

On my phone so hard to search but there is a sticky someplace, No waiting required for the past, Remove the heat sink and clean the old paste off with a coffee filter and alcahol (coffee filter is lint free) Put a rice size of paste on the CPU and put the heat sink back on, You don't need a lot because all its there for is to fill the gaps between the heat sink and CPU and trasfur the heat from one to the other.
