Hi Everyone,

I recently downloaded an updated 32/64-bit touchpad driver from the Gateway support website for my 64-bit Windows Vista Ultimate OS on my Gateway laptop, but when I try to install it I receive this message from the Device Driver Installation Wizard:

"You have to run the 64-bit version of DPInst.exe on this machine.

Contact the vendor that provided you this package."

Why am I receiving this message and how might I be able to overcome/correct it???

One would think that the 64-bit version of DPInst.exe would come included on the Vista 64-bit OS....?? Or is this a hardware issue??

Any and all help to rectify this matter would be most appreciated.

TIA

Through extensive research I've discovered the answer to my problem....It's not a software or computer problem at all, the problem actually lies within the driver package itself. From what I understand the appropriate installer/s (DPInst.exe) is supposed to be part of the driver package. Unfortunately in this case Gateway has forgotten to include the 64-bit version. I guess my only recourse is to contact Gateway and bring this to their attention.
