Can't Get into Secure sites

This all started when I downloaded an Update for Norton which slowed my system to a crawl when I started it up.

I replaced it with AVG and now

I can log into secure sites.

I thought it was norton but after manually deleteing everything having to do with Symantec off my system I still can't log in.

Is it AVG is it norton's ghost? is there something in my registry (which is a huge mess) that's doing this?

I run Windows ME BTW.

It seems like I've done everything.

It's this way in both IE and Mozilla as well as loging into MSN Messager.

What should I do?

Hey bemanisuperstar,

I am not sure if you have Norton 2004 or not but I found
this link describing Norton 2004 and it slowing down internet

And Norton is famous for leaving numerous registry keys in your
computer after you uninstall it.

Well I diddn't delete everything I went back searched for Symantec deleted that rebooted and now I can get on to secure sites.

I was running norton 2002. I now run AVG with is 1000000X better.

Norton wasn't letting me uninstall it either so I had to do it manually.

So everything is working just fine now. I just gotta get the soundcard working
