Cant Access User Folder after Windows Reinstall

I reinstalled windows on my friends computer and we deleted the old install. Now it wont let me in to his old user folder saying access is denied. I dont really know how to get into it because the profile appears to be gone.

I assume the computer is on a home network and not on a domain. Are you trying to access data on a different HD or partition? What OS was on it and what is the current OS now? I assume it is either NT, 2000, or XP. If it is one of these, do you have administrative rights? Can you right click on the folder and change the permissions to give everyone full access? If you answer these questions, it would be a little easier for us to troubleshoot.

im using windows XP, its on the same HD, in the same user folder, */documents and settings/* the permission is set to administrator. i even tried logging in safe mode as administrator and still couldn't access the folder.
