Cant access disk management

hi,
since a few days ago i cant get into disk management through administrative tools, when i click on it it says:
connectiong to logical disk management service and then theres an error: server execution failed
and then it says in the disk management window
"unable to connect to logical disk manager service".

i tried starting the service manualy but didnt work.

anyone know what to do?

You might not have administrative privileges, are you sure you are log in as an administrator account? What version of Windows is this?

if you have an ipod or usb hdd, disconnect it.

yes i have administrative privileges and its windows xp pro sp2

and i have nothing connected on my usb ports
it just stopped working a few days ago...
