Cannot open PDF's in microsoft xp

I have never been able to open up PDFs on my laptop and it was never a problem because I always had access to a desktop if I really needed to open the file, but now at work I am using my laptop every day and I really need to be able to open PDFs. I tried installing all of the adobe readers, but that has changed nothing. Any help or guidance is appreciated

When you installed Adobe Reader, what happens? Also you can try an alternative such as Foxit Reader - Overview - Foxit Software.
