Default cable modem

i have cable connection at home but it's through timewarner... i get to go online at work but i have to use dial-up..anyway they use a diffferent cable company at my job so i thought i'd try to use my modem there ..it didn't work because i need the cable company to do something with the mac address..anyways they want me to set up an account yada yada yada moe money..my question is..is there anyway around this to make my modem work at work? sorry if this is in the wrong area

I might have this wrong, but do you have a cable connection at work???? if you do , why not just setup a router.... maybe I read this wrong.......
