Hi, I've been getting many BSOD's for the last year and a half. My PC was previously running on Vista and i used to get a BSOD from a few times a day to getting 1 a week (which were the more happier times lol). I though Vista was causing the BSOD's so downgraded to XP SP3 about 2 weeks ago...... Still getting BSOD's unfortunately. PLEASE HELP. THANKS SO MUCH IN ADVANCE EVERYONE :)

System Information:

Dell Inspiron 531
Windows XP Professional SP3 (Downgraded from Vista Home Premium)
AMD Atholon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
2.01 GHz
2GB Ram
Nvidia nForce 430 GeForce 6150SE

Below are details gathered from minidumps using Blue Screen View 1.20 (Excellent Programme, Just open it and all BSOD info is shown, don't need to manually debug minidumps... <100kb also so is a must have on your PC. Here's the link:

Download BlueScreenView 1.20 - Show information about blue screen crashes occurred in your system. - Softpedia

Info that might help:

- My Pc makes a grinding sound (not so noticable though, need to pay attention). Its particularly loud after waking my PC from Sleep mode and running a lot of programs or a Virus Scan.

- Main Bsod's are IRQL not less or equal and page fault in nonpaged area

- I've given my PC a thorough cleaning 3 weeks ago using a can of compressed air. Was very careful in cleaning. Thought dust might be causing it but guess it wasn't

- I've ran multiple diagnostics using the dell diagnostics cd and everything 'SEEMS' fine.

Now for the Debugging info. My 6 most recent mindumps are below:

The debugging info gives me an idea of what's casuing the bsod's. i've formatted my PC about 6 times in the past few years and i don't think that's the solution and i need to tackle this bsod problem head on and get rid of it for good... With all your help of course ;)

I would be extremely greatful if anyone could take the time to help me. I think I've given all the information you could possibly need so should be a piece of cake for all you techies out there :p

PS: Happy New Year Everyone :)

Best Regards

What stop error code do you get?

If constant formatting and OS's still are giving you these errors look into hardware giving you the issue. Could be the hard drive, but we would need the stop error code to be more specific.

Note: i don't know if the dump files give the exact same code.

run memtest on your ram.
Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

also download the drive diagnosis program for your hard drive and test that.

make sure all of your drivers are up to date.
When you reinstall xp are you getting the latest drivers from Dell's website rather than using the ones that came with your computer?

RAM and sounds like your hard drive is dying if you hear that kinda noise from it.

Thanks for all your help everyone.

Mak213:

Though i'd add that my pc is fine ie no abnormal sounds coming from it when watching videos, surfing the internet, only when i run a virus scan, wake from sleep mode or have a lot of programs open.

Btw i opened up my pc, ran it and tried isolating the sound. Hard drive wasn't make no noise, it was coming from the motherboard around the ram i 'think', couldn't get too close so was a little hard to tell.

If ram is faulty is there any way of fixing or do i have to buy new RAM?

If i buy ram is it just a matter of taking the old /faulty ram out and slotting in the new one and i'm set? or do i have to go through some complicated process

Hefemeister:

I'll run memtest and see what errors i get.

I've ran a diagnostic of my pc a few times using the dell diagnostics cd provided. showed no errors

Lexluethar:

I'm not certain what stop errors i geti, if i upload minidump files, would it possible to find out?

Tried uploading but don't know how to upload minidump files, just found that i could attache links. is there a way of getting around this???

Thanks again everyone

I doubt that your memory or mother board is where the "abnormal" sound is coming from - especially since there are no moving parts to make said abnormal sounds. Usually, the hard drive (or optical drive) is the culprit. Sounds like, in your case, the noise is coming from the hard drive.
