So, i just bought a brand new HP desktop for my teenage sons.

The router is a Link Sys version 8, and has always worked fine.

The new computer came with Windows 7, which isnt 'set up' to run the Link Sys router.

The guy at Staples told us to Manually Install the modem, but i'm not sure what he means by manually install.

HELP!

i have NO IDEA what i'm doing, and am humbled in the presense of knowledgable computer wizz's.

HELP!

and thanks.

well, nothing happens.

what i meen to say is, when i marry the router to computer, the connection icon at the bottom remains 'X'ed. When i hook the internet connection directly to the cable modem, the computer gets online, but every notebook in my house is offline.

The system dosnt recognize the router at all.

Unplug the router and the modem. Plug in the router first then plug in the modem. After that connect your PC's to the router. Does it work then? What happens is that the modem is not set to work with the router. Doing it this way allows for the router to act as the gateway for the modem instead of it going right to the PC as it is now.
