Hi All,

I have just taken a friends machine to have a look at because he could not start it up. It has windows XP on it. When I try to boot up it gets to the screen that says.

Start windows in safe mode
safe mode with command prompt
Safe mode with networking
last config that worked
start windows normally.

I have tried them all and all of them do about 5 seconds of processing before the computer restarts again. None of them get anywhere where there are more option. On the copmmand prompt options I can see the files it is loading. It Always restarts the computer when trying to load the file 'alim1541.sys'

Does anyone know what I can do? I have checked the web for the file name from google but everything was quite beyond my understanding.

Thanks

Gaz

I think thats an agp support file, maybe try taking out the card and using the onboard video.

i was upgrading an IBM thinkpad 1400 series laptop to windows xp and it too stopped at the alim1541.sys file but a couple days later i was working on an emachine with the same .sys file and it booted fine. so i think it's the file following alim1541.sys that is hanging up the install process
