Bookmarks dissapeared, WTF?!?!?!?!

ok, this has happened twice now (on my lappy, my desktop remains unaffected). I have firefox. my bookmarks have dissapeared. it happened when the firefox update came out, but I didn't update firefox. I am still using 1.02. I did a system restore, but the bookmarks are still gone. Any one know how to fix/prevent this? Has anyone else experianced this problem? It is really important cause all my internet research for my english project is on my lappy.


EDIT

I did a virus scan with AVG and found nothing. what is also odd is my history remains intact.

I have not run an ad aware scan yet.

Yea I lost all my bookmarks and settings on firefox out of seemingly nowhere as well.

Also when I updated firefox it had firefox installed twice on my add/remove programs list. Which made me even more frustrated.

I no longer use firefox because it always pulls crap like that on me.
