Hi all

My computer has always had errors and shut down (blue screen, windows will now be shut down etc) occasionally, but recently it has been doing so rather frequently, so much so that I'm finally motivated to do something about it. I searched through some old threads, but couldn't really find a solid answer about what exactly is going on with this.

Background Info:
Windows XP sp3
AVG antivirus, MWB anti malware, Glary Utilities
Google chrome is probably the most recent major program that I've installed
I can give any hardware specifics if needed
I havn't written down the error codes, but I will begin posting them

This has been happening every time I transfer large amounts of data onto my main hard drive (except in safe mode) for the entire time Ive had my computer. It just didnt bother me because I rarly did that, so occasionally having to go into safe mode wasn't a big deal. More recently, however, it has been happening quite a bit... almost daily or every other day! It usually seems to happen after I have opened a new program, but before it has fully loaded.

As stated above, Ill post error coded next time it happens, but In the mean time, I have a couple of questions. What might be causing this (of course)? The message tells me to disable cashing or shadowing. From reading posts, It sounds like a lot of people think this would slow things down too much... What exactly would it do? Are there any other diagnostics that I could run or potential fixes that I should know about (and are preferable free... im BROKE)?

Thanks a lot

We need to know the STOP codes before we can suggest anything. It could be anything from drivers, to RAM, to HDD, to something else.
