The user left his office, and wneh he returned had the dreaded blue screen. This is a Lattitude X300 notebook that has had issues with the motherboard, replaced by Dell two times now. Basically, the hard drive heats up and so does everything else. The question is, can this memory error be caused by faulty hardware?

Thanks for the help!

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

The following applications were open. The computer was idle, no work was being done.
Lotus Notes 5.5
Internet Explorer 6.X
Microsoft Word 2002
Adobe Reader 6.0

Any additional software running? a firewall or other security software? Did this error happen on resume from standby?

What program is this driver related to? w29nSI.SYS

McAfee Virus Scan Enterprise is part of our standard configuration.

No, the error did not happen from resume or standby. The user had the four applications open, walked out of his office for ten minutes, came back and found his laptop in this state.

The laptop has had lots of hardware problems and overheating, and the question is, could the blue screen be caused by some kind of malfunction in this area?

Thanks for your reply.

if its a one off error the I wouldn't worry to much, stop errors do sometimes occur out of the blue as it were.
If the same stop error keeps happening then troubleshoot it some more.

I've come across this error several times and each time it has been due to either beta or incompatable security software or more commonly a faulty driver or application.

You could take a look and see what that driver file relates to and then reinstalling that driver, maybe clear the pagefile.

Apparently this error can be caused by various hardware problems esp in laptops but from what you say it doesn't sound like one of those as they have specific triggers e.g. resume from standby, change power source etc. It might be a one off error caused by overheating but with overheating you can get pretty much any error.
