Hello,
I have a dell xps 710 that is running XP. Yesterday, I was attempting to update a driver and reboot my system and when it came back on all I say was my wallpaper and nothing else. I tried to get task manager to come up, but nothing. I tried a variety of ways to get something to come on, but still nothing. I went into Safe Mode...and still nothing. No icons..no nada.
I keep seeing a variety of things to do in order to try and get it to boot up and am really confused as to which one I should try.
When I put in my recovery disk I get a menu that says to pick the following options:
When I get the "welcome to set up" screen, should I choose
* To set up Windows XP now, press enter
or
* To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.
Different people seem to be saying different things. I also read that you can go in and do the following:
* Boot from your XP Setup CD and enter the Recovery Console
* Run "Attrib -H -R -S" on the C:\Boot.ini file
* Delete the C:\Boot.ini file
* Run "Bootcfg /Rebuild"
* Run Fixboot
And lastly, my pc told me to put in the service pack 2 data disk. If I download the application at work and burn it to a disk..should I burn it as a bootable disk or just a data disk?
I would appreciate any help. Many thanks.
