I'm currently using windows 8 (have tried repeatedly to upgrade, but it keeps failing - but that's not my question!).
Basically, I want to dig out a load of old games I've had for years and play them, but most simply won't run under the OS, even with compatability mode set as far back as it will go.
As I still have my old Windows 98 disc, I was thinking of trying to set up a sort of alternative boot, either by partitioning my hard drive or adding a new one.

Any and all tips and advice would be appreciated,as I really don't want to mess up my machine through ignorance, especially since I don't have the disc for windows 8, it was pre-installed.

Thanks!

My suggestion is to set Windows 98 up in a virtual machine using VMWare Player.

What games exactly are you wanting to run? It may just be a matter of looking up a "modern" guide for the game to get it running - will most likely have to run it under DOSBox, depending on the game.

Windows 98 should be a virutal machine install, it should work pretty well.
Though having another HDD isnt a bad idea, I have a dual disk drive setup and its a real lifesaver.
