Default Best Video Editing software?

I have just bought a TV tuner card for my PC. I was just wondering what you guys think the best video editing/encoding software is...

I have tried Windows Movie make... was lame.... also tried video studio 8, but that sucked too.

Im not into doing really technical stuff. Only want it to do very basic editing. Also to encode video's with Divx and stuff.

Any ideas of what i should be using?

Adobe Premiere is very nice, but is also expensive.

\'There is only one basic human right, and that is to do as you **** well please.
And with it comes the only basic human duty, to take the consequences.\'

It's not only expensive, but damn, it is MASSIVLY complicated! Final Cut Pro is really good, but equally as expensive. If you want to take it down a few notches, then ULead or Sonic make pretty good stuff. But even to do the most basic of editing you still need a relatively powerful computer. i was making a DVD one, and I cut a scene from a TV show that I had recorded. It crashed my computer. I had an FX5600 256MB, a P4 2.4, and 512mb ram. So you better have some power behind that.
