what does lowering your drive speed do when you're burning cd's?

i always set mine at the maximum while burning, which is 40X

If yoyr cds are scratched, the faster your drive speed, the less likely it will skip or cant read that part of the cd. If you lower it, it will have a better chance of ready it, make sense?

Nero offers a tool called Nero Drive speed. Also you can switch from DMA mode to PIO mode, that helps alot too

So how do I go about doing this? I have nero so I know I'll be able to.

Will I have to copy the files to the computer first?
