backing up and compresing at same time

Alright I have two 40 gb external drives, (this is a laptop )(there both not conected at same time ) Anyways I have a 100 gb internal and 80 gbs has been used. I want to make a backup. Is there any way to compress it while making the backup the problem is i don't have enough space to make a mirrior image and then compress it. I have norten ghost.
any help would be great I'm running a lil low on time tho

I don't have any experience concerning Norton Ghost, so I can't say you anything about its usage. But I have True Image by Acronis installed on my pc and this program allows compressing data during backup (sometimes up to 60 percents), maybe Ghost possesses the same option?
