Whats the best converter tool to encode avi's movies into MPEG movies ready to be burned to a DVD?

Try DVD Santa,i've taken a couple avi movie's and converted them no problem,The only thing is it will take a good couple of hour's to convert them over.

WOW, that long? Do you have an old system or is it just the program that works so slowly? How long would it take on my system (specs below)?

Well right now i'm using a celeron 2.4ghz and i take divx movie's and convert them and it take's me 4 hour's or so to do it,But it might work a little faster for you,It all depend's on how big the original file is that you want to convert.

This program rocks! I use it to "prep" all my movies before creating a VCD or DVD. It will take multiple file formats as well and very user friendly.

Nero VisionExpress can do that and then burn your MPEG's to DVD's.
