AVI to DVD Software/Good Framerate?

I use VSO ConvertX to DVD to encode my movies, and it seems as if the framerate is lowered quite a bit after encoded. When watching on my DVD player you can tell that the video is a little jerky, like with a low framerate. What would be a better program to use to get a better framerate, or maybe there is some setting that I'm missing that I can change? Thanks.
