You can set it up for system maintence and have it automatically back up stuff to another HDD or DVD.

What I am looking is one that is able to perform backups of other PCs documents while all the hosts are on the same network.

Free backup software that does auto backups over a network...i dont think they exist. Sorry but for a solution like that you are better off spending a few $$ to get something that is known to work.

OneCare, Vista has its backup function, maybe Acronis...but i cant think of any free solutions.
