Automated System Restore Question

Alright, I've already googled it, but there is nothing specific about whether or not you can use the Automated System Restore for a machine on another machine that is an absolute clone of it. The only thing would be to use the program sysprep.exe to strip the machine of its unique identifier, then go to the Automated System Restore process.

I know that using sysprep.exe then using Norton Ghost (or any other 3rd party utility) provides the wanted results, but I was wondering if it could be done using the Windows XP tools.
 
Well, if it's an exact copy (as ghost is) you should be able to, because it records EVERYTHING, including all information in even the lowest sectors.
 
Well, from what I understand from Microsoft, it records a machine ID, so if you run that utility that removes the MSID, then it should work.
