Autoexec.bat and Config.sys fi

I am trying to install Win98 on my Laptop ThinkPad and I have received the message that Autoexec.bat and Config.sys have too many useless utility files and they must be removed and can't be completed until that function has been completed!!

How do I check and see if that is the case and How would I accomplish that feat????
