Default ati2evxx.exe - is it a necessary process?

I want to speed up the startup of my PC by disabling unnecessary programs. I know this process is to do with my display drivers, but is it necessary? Thanks

ATI External Event Utility EXE Module. This task can comsume lots of CPU resournce on some computers but it can help with graphics card problems. Leave enabled unless it consumes too many CPU resources

Well from further infomation I found this...

This program is a non-essential process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.

If you really think this process alone is considerable slowing down your PC...disable it..if not just leave it and disable other non-essential processes.
