Did you try to increase your page file like Coffee suggested? That still wouldn't explain why these hiccups didn't happen before, but it's worth a try.
Zone Alarm is a intensive app itself. Check your resources used. It uses more than just about any browser last time i tried it out. So right there could be your issue. Try using something liek AVG or Avast.
