Honestly you cannot fully monitor him, at school, at home.

Even if im talking PC's to someone, i always close the window when people come.

If you want to be stealthy, etheral with filters + APR routing to intercept the messages, but this is more complex, and I shouldnt probolly be talking about that here.

Just to clear things up a little. It is NOT illegal to spy on someone using YOUR computer. Reguardless who it is, it is ok to install keyloggers, etc. on YOUR computer. If it is not your computer than Tyler is right. I skimmed over the article and kept seeing the recuring theme that the law did not apply to anyone who owned the computer or had gotten prior consent from the owner of the computer the software or hardware was installed on.

BTW here is hopefully a working link to view the law:

Yeah it's very possible for him to delete it, if he is really computer savy, he's going to notice anything on his PC. I would too be a bit worried if he's deleting history files.

So you basicly have 3 options

#1: Remote control software, such as VNC (free) and LanSchool (free 30 days). Lanschool is made more for a school enviroment and you can hide it.

#2: Packet Capture with APR routing, intercept the actual packet of the message, and read it.

#3: Packet Capture with a hub, not a free method, hubs are an old form of network technolagy. Every signal is sent everywhere, making them insecure.

#4: Keyloggers, he may however notice these. A trojan like sub7 wouldnt be a bad idea if he does not have antivirus software as well.

I dont hide anything on my computer. All my hard drives are mapped, meaning anyone on the network can see my porn.

May I suggest having a conversation with him? There are non technical ways to find out what is going on in his life. If you are afraid he is getting into trouble then perhaps some rules and consiquences?

Just a thought.

dumdum8684 thank you for correcting the link I forgot to finish. And internet hubs/switches are not insecure? The basic routers today are hubs with extra features if you look at it in from a certain view.

Im not for sure about AIM but MSN keeps chat logs, look in the properties and see if that option is available.
