i had trouble getting a dual boot system going a few weeks ago.

i followed this How to dual boot Vista and XP (with Vista installed first) -- the step-by-step guide | APC Magazine

no dice. xp installed on the 2nd partition, but couldn't get the dual boot menu going. have since formatted the xp partition.

any thoughts?

Install XP. Use the Vista DVD to get the Vista Menu back. Google for EasyBCD and add a XP entry to the Vista boot loader and mover over the NTLDR, NTDETECT and boot.ini files to the Vista partition.
