Default advantages of setting up servers in a clustered configuration?

I am a bit confused with cluster ing and fault-tolerant, What are the advantages of setting up servers in a clustered configuration? It can do automatic backups ? or required less staff to manage it?

It provide failure detection, recovery, and the ability to manage the servers as a single system. Managed as a single system for higher availability, manageability, and scalability.

Fault tolerant is a computer term used to describe how a machine can automaticly respond to a failure like power outage or if one system goes down the other takes over. Clustering provide fault tolerant, recovery and ease of managment and scalability.
