There is a 3rd option in there - some of us actually paid the full price Get a job, save your money, etc.... The acedemic license will run you about $170 bucks http://www.academicsuperstore.com/item/?tname=246168&title=3ds+max That's for a 1 yr license. Discreet is very diligent about protecting their products. But 3DS Max may actually be much more than your really need at this stage of your 3d career. There are some cheaper alternatives to the full 3DS Max package that will give you decent modeling capabilities - at a much lower price. GMax - free http://www.discreet.com/products/gmax/ Cinema 4D - about $600 http://www.maxon.net/index_e.html Blender - free http://www.blender3d.com/cms/Features.155.0.html Wings 3D http://www.wings3d.com/ And more... do a search for "3d programs" on google.com Daf
