Not sure about the USB issue yet, but I'm not saying it wont fix it. After this issue is no more, we will look further into the USB drive issue

okay cool deal. the scan is in progress now, and i've reset the system startup programs to just avg, one weird thing that did happen is that i tried to run msconfig from the run box, but i got the same message about windows not being able to find it, so i just copied the files over again from the download you linked me to and it worked fine.

Rename the msconfig utility you downloaded to msconfig

and then copy it into the directory below from C:\EmergencyUtils, replace if prompted

C:\WINDOWS\pchealth\helpctr\binaries

Let me know if this works or not

i think i got it, i had to browse in the run box, then direct it to the msconfig.exe file in the directory, but it worked fine. The folder you told me to go to already had a msconfig.exe file in it
