Default 2000 install

If i do a 2000 clean install on a compaq with maxtor drive with firmware, will 2000 erase the firmware?

it shouldnt, but u can always reinstall it if u do a fresh format anyways

I need to erase the files on this drive, but i don't want to have to deal with redoing the firmware

u can always reformat and reinstall without redoing the firmware.
