16 Bit MS DOS Subsystem Error

Help I have this comming up and not letting me load new software
C:\WINDOWS\system32\pcpbios.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT the system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose Close to terminate the application.

Are you running XP X64? If so it cant handle 16 bit applications. Only 32 bit and 64 bit.

Also how old is the app? If it is from 95 or so then maybe even XP cant handle it. Some really old apps dont run on XP that well.
