Wireless not working when laptop is plugged in

Strangest thing! For what reason would the wireless not pick up any connections when the power cord is plugged in but when it is running on the battery a signal can be picked up? Strangest thing I've ever seen (so far).
 
That's strange. I know this is a long shot, but if you have any three-to-two prong adapters (the kind that cut off ground), you can try plugging your AC plug into that to solve a possible ground-loop problem.
 
Did you check to see if your wireless card was enabled when it wasn't picking up a signal?

Another long shot, maybe your power saving schemes are weird, although I'm not suspecting that you did anything to. (it can be told what to do when its plugged in or not plugged in to save power.)
