I recently aquired a gateway 400sd4 laptop computer and and now I have an issue with it. Windows will no longer load, and the computer claims that a file is corrupt and and needs to be reinstalled. The bottom of the laptop has a product key on it, which I assume is for windows, so is there a way that I can use this product key to get a new copy of XP or is there a way to repair this copy of windows? Or must I get an all new copy of windows? I hope this makes sense, and I appreciate help! thanks!

UNfortunately I do not have a disc.

The exact message when I turn the computer on is
"Windows could not start because the following file is corrupt or missing: <windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe. Please reinstall a copy of the above file"

Does that help make the problem easier to identify?

Without a disk you will be outta luck. As XP is no longer for sale. On top of that can you verify that the COA Sticker is for XP?

The file missing is the Kernel for the OS. You need a disk to proceed.
