Tips on buying Laptop bags/cases/sleeves/etc

I have a 14" widescreen laptop with a 16:9 ratio.
I'm going to travel a lot, so I need a safe way of carrying it.

What types of bags should I avoid?
What types of bags should I look for?
How do I know if it's the right size? The bag may not have the same ratio.

Just give me tips. The more, the better.

The bigger, the better. If you have a 14" widescreen, get a bag for a 15"

Targus is my favorite brand. I have a backpack. There are also shoulder bags.

Unless you have a bag to pit it in, securely, I would not buy a Sleeve.

This is one of the only times i would suggest purchasing something in a store opposed to online. YOu are going to pay around 15% more but you will get a good sense of what you like and dislike. You'll be able to get your hands on the items and feel their weight, see every compartment and truely see how the material feels / looks.
