Sony Vaio?

yes yes, its over priced I know.

but I like their styling and specifically the SZ and the new SR and Z series
(c'mon weighs in @ 4lbs and got a discrete gfx card(although weak) and was one of the thinnest nb before mac air came along... count me in)

I've got the SZ but recently a fan just went berserk... like super loud all the time
before it was quiet...

what do you guys think?

open it up and check it out?
or drop it like its hawt and get a new one (don't have to be a Vaio)

Has the warranty expired yet? It would be cheaper to get the fan replaced than to buy a new laptop. Try blowing the dirt out of the cooling vents with canned air. The fan maybe running at high speed because of the extra heat.

I wish all laptops were built like my Dell Inspiron 9100. The fans are user replaceable. They just pop right out the bottom.

One good thing about Dells is that they're laptops are easy to service. Sony's definitely are not. I'd try blowing the dust out and maybe opening it up if that doesn't help.
